Aqueducts Run Through It
Sunday, January 8 2:30-4:30 PM Wayland Public Library
Together with the Wayland Library, we will present Aqueducts Run Through It featuring our own Tom Sciacca. Do you know how many aqueducts run through Wayland? Since 1848, most of Boston’s drinking water has come either from or through Wayland. Lake Cochituate, Dudley Pond, and the Sudbury River have all been part of Boston’s water supply. Indeed, the very name, Lake Cochituate, is an artifact of its history as a Boston water source. But the aqueducts carrying water from the Quabbin and Wachusett reservoirs run through Wayland, too.
Their nature has radically changed over the years, reflecting “state of the art” engineering of their time. Now some provide fabulous recreational opportunities. We will learn about the past and present of these most critical and often elegant pieces of infrastructure.
