Lydia Maria Child
Wayland’s own Lydia Maria Child wrote the most famous poem in America about Thanksgiving- “Over the River and Through the Wood’ (originally titled “The New-England Boy’s Song About Thanksgiving Day”). Mrs. Child was a prominent 19th century author, editor and reformer who has been named to the National Women’s Hall of Fame and the National Abolition Hall of Fame. The Wayland Museum and Historical Society is proud to have in our collection a number of items which she owned.
A happy and safe Thanksgiving from all of us.
