The Wayland Museum & Historical Society is excited and pleased to announce the selection of Scarlett V. Hoey as our first Executive Director. Scarlett brings a great deal of relevant experience and natural creativity to this new position. Her professional experience includes building community partnerships; growing revenue from memberships and programs; producing exhibitions, events and workshops; collaborating with local museums, colleges, and high schools; as well as a familiarity with a broad array of funding resources, such as local and state cultural councils and agencies, foundations, corporate sponsors, and individual donors. Scarlett has interned with the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, the Boston Athenaeum, and has worked with ArtsWorcester and the New England Museum Association. In short, she brings the Wayland Historical Society exceptional and essential working knowledge of non-profit organizations.
Scarlett, who grew up in Wayland, looks forward to leading the Historical Society in the town that nurtured her interest in New England history and culture.
“Growing up in Wayland provided me with an understanding and familiarity of how the Wayland Museum and Historical Society and the Grout-Heard house fit into the greater cultural landscape of the area,” says Scarlett. “I was fortunate to see history on a daily basis. Field trips to local art and history museums cemented my love of history and expression and led me to study Art History and Photography at Massachusetts College of Art and Design. I found my calling in the art and museum non-profit sector and have been passionately dedicated to it ever since and I am thrilled by the opportunity to bring my background in museum leadership and personal history in Wayland to this exciting opportunity.”
We hope you will greet Scarlett at the Grout-Heard House, or when you see her out and about in our community. She begins her new post on November 25, and will be available at the museum Monday through Thursday from 9 am to 2 pm.
Welcome aboard, Scarlett!
